If you only do one thing
We know time is tight, so here is just one activity you could complete before or after watching the broadcast with Konnie Huq.
Create a solar system MNU 2-03a, MNU 2-11a, SCN 2-06a
Once a year all the pupils in Cookie’s class take part in a science competition. Cookie’s entry this year is a to-scale model of the solar system (which is also edible). Why not make your own to scale solar system as a class? Before making your model planets, work out the distances between the planets and what the best scale to use to suit your classroom would be. Pupils will also need to work out which items are best to use for the different planets. For example, Cookie struggles to select suitable items when she realises that the sun is 820,000 times bigger than the earth. The problem being that the melon she wanted to use for the sun is not 820,000 bigger than the pea which represents the earth. Encourage your pupils to be as inventive as possible to solve these problems- Cookie uses sugar to create the asteroid belt. Can your pupils come up with similar solutions when creating their model solar system?
