One door closes

- “The difficulty in the world is waiting for doors to open”

- When a door closes, God opens a hundred more - Arabic saying

A strong iron door

heavy to open, cold, rough

against the hand.

I can see sunlight, hope,

through its glass.

People on the other side

make me want to open it.

I knock on the door

but they don’t hear.

I try the steel handle

tick click tick click

and it’s helpless.

I have to use the key

(everyone has the key

to their own life).

I struggle to get it

into the lock but focus -

crick -

turn with my wrist,

raise my shoulder and push, step into a new life.

I have to accept

what I see,

sunlight.
