Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour: Hiba Noor Khan (virtual)

Tune in to a virtual event with author and activist Hiba Noor Khan.

Hiba Noor Khan is joining the Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour in 2024 with her fiction debut, Safiyyah's War. Hiba has previously written several non-fiction books and one picture book, alongside work as a physics teacher, activist, and Global Diplomacy graduate.

Safiyyah's War transports us to the Grand Mosque of Paris during World War Two, and the true story of how hundreds of persecuted Jews sought refuge there. When Safiyyah's father is arrested by the Nazis for his secret resistance work, it falls to her to work up the courage to enter the treacherous catacombs beneath the city and help lead the Jewish people to safety.

During this virtual event, Hiba will introduce herself, the book, and her journey to becoming an author, followed by an interactive activity based around spying and resistance work. Hiba will explain the inspiration behind the book, and share stories of her visits to the Grand Mosque of Paris, the catacombs, and the libraries and archives that she frequented to uncover Safiyyah's story. Pupils will have the chance to ask Hiba questions about her varied work.
