Catherine Johnson and Vashti Hardy

Part of the Connected: Polar series

Video Watch now: Catherine Johnson and Vashti Hardy

This event tells the tale of two intrepid expeditions; one to the North Pole, and one to a fictional South Pole.

Catherine Johnson’s book Race to the Frozen North: The Matthew Henson Story tells the remarkable true story of the first man to reach the North Pole, his life of adventure on the high seas and in the Arctic, and how his achievements were ignored due to the colour of his skin.

Vashti Hardy is known for writing breath-taking middle grade fantasies and is an advocate for free-writing. Here she will talk about Brightstorm; the real life adventures that inspired the story and how she uses maps, images, music to help create fantasy worlds.
