You Choose by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt

You Choose is an exciting book – like Dad in the video says – it can be different every time you share it. The family have a great time chatting through different pages. He uses the book as an opportunity to engage his sons with new words by following their interests and giving them the word for the picture they choose. It’s a great way to boost children’s language in a fun, practical and engaging way.

At several points, Dad refers back to what things they have talked about earlier, or he links the book to the children’s experiences. This is a really great way to help children develop their thinking and reasoning skills.

Even during an active story time, the family in this video really enjoy looking through the book and talking about what they would like. It’s a great way to build family relationships and give children a chance to share their opinions. There are lots of ways to share this book – and no right or wrong way.

Is that an Elephant in My Fridge? by Caroline Crowe and Claudia Ranucci

This story gives Gavin and his Great Auntie a lovely moment to curl up together. It’s quite a funny story, and even though Gavin is sleepy, she is able to point out the humour, and you can see that he’s focussed and enjoying the story. She’s able to respond to his mood and share the story in a quiet and calm way. They share some lovely cuddles and interaction, and some discussions about the pictures.
