Looking for more in Reading and Stories or Arts Alive?

Apply now: Arts Alive School Residencies

Arts Alive School Residencies gives Scottish schools the opportunity to work with musicians, singers, dancers, composers, actors and other professionals from Scotland’s National Companies over a sustained period of time.

We’re thrilled to be working with Scotland’s National Performing Companies to bring artists into schools. You can apply to bring musicians, singers, dancers, composers, actors and more to your school for a fully-funded school residency in January-May 2021.

The National Performing Companies are the National Theatre of Scotland, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Opera.

Arts Alive School Residencies provide fully funded residencies for schools where cost is a significant barrier to working with professional artists.

Each residency includes at least 10 fully funded sessions including a CLPL session and a resources grant of £500.

To apply, simply download the application form(this will open in a new window) and tell us a little about your school, which expressive arts you'd most like to feature in your school and what you'd like to focus on during the residency.

Alongside financial support, the team at Scottish Book Trust can be on hand with help and advice for planning, evaluating and promoting your residency. We pay the artist/s directly.

Covid-19 restrictions

Funded residencies can take place using a mix of remotely, digitally, distanced or in-person sessions, depending on what works best for your school and the artist/s. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis by the artist and school and will be informed by relevant public health advice.

Applications for Arts Alive School Residencies taking place during January-May 2021 are currently open. For individual part-funded sessions apply for Arts Alive School Sessions.

To apply, please read the eligibility criteria carefully, then download an application form and return to kayleigh.bohan@scottishbooktrust.com. The deadline for applications is Friday 9 October at noon.

How to apply

What are the panel looking for?

Need

We want to fund projects that could not happen without the support of Arts Alive and projects that take place where they are needed most. Please be clear about why you need this funding for a residency. Please be specific to your school and community’s circumstances.

Enthusiasm

We are looking for schools where learning professionals at all levels are really excited to bring the arts to their pupils and want to develop their own practice by learning from a professional artist. You do not need to know the exact project at this stage. You do need to demonstrate that you will work enthusiastically with the artist and National Company to plan the project and welcome them to your school and community.

Imagination

We want to support you to do something innovative, fun and beneficial to your pupils! The form asks you what you'd be most excited about if awarded a residency. This gives our panel an idea of how you and your school would approach the residency.

Arts Alive and Live Literature

Your school can apply for support from both programmes. Please note:
