Who's making the comics you love? How do comics creators process their creative influences, especially from more problematic, exclusionary media? What spaces and networks are available for emerging creators in Scotland and the UK? And how can the comics industry become a more welcoming place for new creators and creators of colour?

Join writer, artist and editor Olivia Hicks, artist Shuning Ji, and moderator Kelly Kanayama from the Scottish BAME Writers Network in this event about comics and creators' past, present, and future.

Olivia Hicks is an editor at 2000 AD and a comics creator. She has written for the 2000 AD Summer Special (2018), the Cor!! Buster Easter Special (2020), and the new children's comic Monster Fun (2021), among others. She has also created educational comics for the British Library and UK Research and Innovation.

Shuning Ji is a Chinese illustrator, comic artist and character designer currently based in Edinburgh. Specialising in storytelling through character design and atmospheric concept art, and finished her MA in illustration at the University of Edinburgh in 2021. She now creates her own work as a freelancer.
