It’s the final event of our writers-in-residence programme and we’re joined by Glasgow-based author of 2020’s breakout novel Lote, Shola von Reinhold. What better way to explore the value and instrumentality of archives than with a rip-roaring novel whose cunning protagonist Mathilda artfully uncovers the weaponizing of an archive to exclude Black narratives and experience?
Join Shola, and our residents Janette Ayachi, Callie Gardner, Jane Goldman, Iain Morrison and Tom Pow as they read from their work and discuss their engagement with The Fruitmarket Gallery’s own recently recatalogued archive which runs from our early exhibitions in the 1970s to the present day. Expect to hear about romance in the café, secret encounters in the gallery, and turbulent fables of parallel pasts and presents.
