Poetry: not just for academics and people who quote Shakespeare. Knight Errant Press and Anita Govan are bringing together a dyslexia-focused online creative writing workshop as part of Book Week Scotland 2020 to de-stigmatise poetry and support dyslexic writers and anyone interested in exploring their ideas through spoken word.

This online workshop will be a safe space for people to explore how to stimulate ideas and create poetry, while negotiating the challenges dyslexia presents.

Leading the discussion and facilitating creative exercises will be Anita Govan, an experienced poet and educator. Severely dyslexic with ADHD, Anita is a pioneer and proponent of spoken word and poetry in Scotland. She has been described as the Janis Joplin of performance poetry.

This workshop is designed for anyone interested in writing poetry but feels unsupported by traditional teaching structures. We are creating a safe space for everyone to explore their creativity and find new ways of sharing ideas. You don’t need to have any experience with poetry, all you need is to bring your wonderful, curious self.

How to take part in the workshop This event will be run online via Zoom. The workshop is free but you have to book a place as we have limited spaces available. You will receive a link to join the Zoom on the day via email.
