Metaphrog are coming to Pentlands Book Festival. As with all the best frogs and phrogs in fairy tales, Metaphrog assumes human shape, this time as Sandra Marrs and John Chalmers, the princess and prince of the graphic novel, multiple award winners for their work including their recent magical transformations of traditional fairy tales into stories for our time. John does the words and Sandra the illustrations.

Recognising that traditional tales reflect the values and social mores of an earlier world, especially in terms of acceptable roles for girls and women, Metaphrog retain the original narrative and characters, but modernise them to give equality to male and female protagonists. They will give us an illustrated talk centred on their fairy tale graphic novel adaptations The Red Shoes and Other Tales, The Little Mermaid and Bluebeard, first introducing their work, then giving tips on character design and storytelling, followed by a question and answer session. This event is designed to appeal to adults and children. Metaphrog have had a great deal of experience in presenting their work to audiences of all ages.
