Iain Wilson will speak about his new book, The Kilt, which details his family’s history. It deals in part with a farming family living in Ayrshire during the nineteenth century, but focuses in particular on the story of twin brothers (his great uncles) who had contrasting fortunes in WWII – one was captured in northern France and spent the war in a prisoner-of-war camp; the other went on to fight against the Japanese in India and Burma and was part of the occupation forces in Japan itself. The story also touches briefly on the history of the Cameron Highlanders and the development of the kilt, which was the inspiration for the story.
