This adult-only event is part of this year's Book Week Scotland, an annual celebration of books and reading run by Scottish Book Trust. With the support of local author and creative writing teacher Ann MacLaren, you will start by looking briefly at and talking about different kinds of personal storytelling (autobiography, memoir, oral history). Participants will be invited to take part in some short exercises to prompt memories – for example, describing a place from their past (e.g. a room or a park); a particular event in their past (e.g. a school trip or a first job); or a person from their past (e.g. their best friend or granny). They will then be encouraged to develop one of these memories into a short piece of writing (or notes) so that (if they wish) their stories can be shared aloud with the other participants.
The event will include some refreshments and light snacks.
Please note this event is now fully booked, but please get in touch with the event organiser if you would like to be put on the waiting list.
