This event will start with a talk and slideshow presentation. Kasia Matyjaszek will introduce herself and her work, and will show a few of her picture books and talk about the inspirations and process behind them. She will also talk about the books in general and cover various aspects of illustrating books for children. The talk will be followed by a short (30-minute) workshop in which the audience will be invited to participate. This will involve live drawing on a flipchart and an easy and fun illustrating task. Everyone will be welcome to join in and no previous drawing or illustrating experience is required.
Kasia is a picture book author and illustrator with a Masters degree in Illustration. Her work was shortlisted in the Macmillan Book Prize and Clairvoyants Picture Book Competition, and she was one of the finalists of the Picture Hooks mentoring scheme. Her picture book The Fourth Bonniest Baby in Dundee (written by Michelle Sloan) was shortlisted in the Bookbug Picture Book Prize 2018 and gifted to every Primary 1 pupil in Scotland. When she is not busy making pictures in her studio, Kasia works as a tutor at the University of Edinburgh and runs creative workshops for children.
