Tariq Latif
I am passionate about understanding how the Asian communities live and function within the larger context of the British culture and how national and inter-national issues filter down to the local Halal butcher's, an arranged wedding or an incident in a pub. My interests range from racial discrimination/prejudices in context to cultural challenges and stereotypes to a love of nature and understanding the Science of the world we live in.
Whilst I was brought up as a Muslim I explore religious differences and commonalities in Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian faiths through my poems. I love the Scottish landscape. I am so struck by the sheer beauty and scale of the Highlands that I find myself exploring the existential questions through nature again and again.
This exploration is tempered by an understanding of the Physics of the physical world and the wider scope of the Universe. I write in a range of styles from sonnets, free blank verse to strict forms such as sestinas and villanelles.
