Sue Peebles
I am a novelist working in Fife. I was born in Arbroath and have lived in Detroit, Dunoon, Dumfries and Dundee. I left school as soon as was legally possible and worked in hotels, bars and laboratories for several years before graduating in Psychology. I have since been a researcher, social worker and university teacher. My first novel won the Saltire Award and the Scottish First Book Award, and was short-listed for Scottish Book of the Year. My second novel was shortlisted for The Encore Prize. I have worked with Arvon and Moniack Mhor as a creative writing tutor on residential courses. Previous appearances include literary festivals, libraries, discussion panels, hospitals, book groups. I am available for readings, residencies or workshops across a wide range of settings such as writing groups, book groups, and including groupings within the Arts, education, health, and social care contexts.
As well as readings and discussion of the writing process, events can be tailored to explore wider themes such as: language & meaning; family relationships; dynamics of care; dementia and mental health issues; ageing; loss; personhood; oppressive relations.
