I'm an award-winning author of over 50 books for children and young adults, including the bestselling YA series Angel. I've been writing professionally since 2002 and have been published in 20 different languages. I'm also an experienced speaker and writing teacher, comfortable working with both small groups and large audiences.

For children and teenagers, I do frequent school visits and festivals, where I normally talk about my work and the writing life, give readings, and run dynamic, interactive writing workshops. For adults, I'm a writing teacher and mentor (currently with Faber Academy). I've run short workshops on every aspect of fiction-writing, and also longer residential courses where I teach professional fiction-writing skills, give one to one feedback on manuscripts, and generally seek to support and encourage new writing talent. I love working with keen readers and writers, but equally enjoy working with young reluctant readers, who I've had great success in approaching via verbal storytelling and story-crafting.

Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, I currently live in a rambling Victorian house in the Scottish Borders with my husband and dog. My latest YA series, the Broken trilogy, was inspired by my love of classic film and Spitfires.
