Katharine Grant
A strong combination of fiction writing, journalism and academic writing informs my approach to running writing events and workshops for writers of all ages and with different needs and ambitions. As a historical novelist (10 novels - Puffin, Quercus, Virago - including two trilogies), I offer the skills needed to turn a good idea into a finished work: harnessing the imagination, creating a narrative structure, adopting good writing habits, the art and craft of self-editing.
As a newspaper columnist, including, at various times, The Herald, Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and the Scottish editions of The Times and Sunday Times. I bring experience of marshalling facts, writing clearly and with style, sticking to a wordcount, and managing the stress of deadlines. I was the Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at the University of Glasgow (2011-2014), am now an RLF Consultant Fellow, and on the panel of judges for the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. I also go by the names Katie and K.M. Grant. (Photo credit:Â Debbie Toksvig)
