In space, no one can hear you ... bake? Join the cosmic duo Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve for a wacky journey into space. Sarah and Philip talk aliens, space food and read from their fantastic book Cakes in Space. With singsongs, draw-a-longs and robotic, cookie-making Nom-O-Trons, this event is out of this world.

Don't forget to have paper and pencils ready for the draw-a-long!

If you only do one thing

We know time is tight, so here is just one activity you could do with your class before or after watching the broadcast.

Space voyages  LIT 2-28a

In the novel, we learn that it will take Astra and her family 199 years to reach Nova Mundi. Try to find out how many years it would take you to fly in a jet or to drive to the different planets, setting off from the sun at the centre of the solar system each time. Work with a partner to design and complete a table to record your findings.

Imagine you were going on an epic voyage to space and were allowed to take 3 possessions with you for the journey. What would you take and why? Discuss your ideas in groups. Were there any similarities? Did anyone have anything surprising packed to take with them? Can you agree on 3 items?
