The launch of Arts Alive means that schools across Scotland can now apply for part-funded visits and fully-funded residencies from some of the country’s most talented artistic professionals, from the National Theatre of Scotland, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Opera.
Wondering how that might look in your school or whether you should apply? Check out our top five reasons for applying for Arts Alive.
Improve pupils' confidence and wellbeing
As well as potentially kickstarting a lifelong appreciation for the arts, high-quality art experiences can improve young people’s confidence and wellbeing in young people, and work towards narrowing the attainment gap.
Get financial support
Arts Alive Sessions provide schools with a contribution to the cost of one session with a National Companies artist. Arts Alive Residencies cover the full cost of ten artists sessions, and includes a £500 resources grant.
Whichever option you choose, we'll make the financial side as smooth as possible by paying the artist directly, and sending an invoice for your contribution at the end of the project if relevant.
Flexible delivery styles to suit different settings
To make sure schools and young people get the most out of their visits, artists are offering a variety of delivery options. From careers talks to hands-on workshops to spellbinding performances, there’s something to support all young people to ignite a new passion or further their interests.
We know there's a huge amount of uncertainty surrounding the coming months, so artists can offer a mix of remote, digital and in-person sessions to suit your school.
Develop your teaching practice
We’re looking for learning professionals who are excited to bring artistic experiences to their pupils – and we’re not expecting you to be an expert! In fact, your enthusiasm is the most important thing to us and we will do all we can to help you broaden your experiences and practice alongside your classroom. All successful schools will receive support and guidance from the expert teams at Scottish Book Trust and the National Companies. In addition, all Arts Alive residencies include a CLPL session as standard.
Arts Alive sessions and residencies aren't just educational, they're also great fun. After the stress and upheaval that many pupils have experienced in 2020, engaging with music, theatre and dance gives everyone the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves.
Apply for a school session or a school residency before Friday 13 November at 12 noon.
