Statement regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Since entering lockdown, Scottish Book Trust has made a number of changes to delivery of its programmes and events, moving much of this online. As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, the health and safety of the public, our partners and our staff remain a priority.

Lockdown has shown that the need for our work has never been greater. Over the past three months we have worked with charities, food banks and publishers to distribute books and resources to families in need across Scotland through our Urgent Children’s Book Appeal. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, 65,000 books and fun learning activities have been delivered to children and families the length and breadth of the country, from Shetland to the Borders.

Some changes have been made to our programmes to allow us to adapt to requirements of the current situation and follow health and safety guidelines:

Book Week Scotland

We are developing exciting plans to extend Book Week Scotland’s digital festival this year. Book Week Scotland partners have been asked to programme unique, exciting activities which connect with their community at home, online or in safe public spaces, with social distancing measures in place where required. Book Week Scotland will not be progressing any events that causes groups of people to gather in enclosed spaces.

Live Literature Sessions

Live Literature sessions can be delivered remotely where in-person activity isn’t possible. If you do need to postpone an event, these can be rearranged in the coming months to allow minimum disruption for schools, venues and authors. Where an alternative solution cannot be found, sessions can be returned to us without penalty. Please see our guidance on invoicing and cancellations for further information.

Live Literature School Residencies

Applications for Live Literature School Residencies are scheduled to open in August. We are continuing to monitor the situation with COVID-19 and will share updated advice and guidance for school residencies.

Bookbug Sessions

Bookbug Sessions may be cancelled, however please contact your local venue directly to confirm. We will provide further information about the return of face to face sessions in due course through our website and the Bookbug app. Families can enjoy free live online Bookbug Sessions on our Facebook page(this will open in a new window) every Friday at 10am.

Home Activities Hub

We created a new area on our website for parents and carers to access resources and ideas for home activities and this will continue to be updated throughout the summer holidays.
