‘How rude of me,’ said Rhona. ‘I’ve still not introduced you to Artie.’ ‘Who?’ asked Janet. Rhona laughed, eyes lighting up.  ‘My dog, of course. Bit shy, wary of strangers.’ Her hand stroked empty space above the neighbouring seat. ‘He just showed up one day. Stops me feeling so lonely.’

Young writers (12-18) winner

Yi Lin Yang, age 14

Young writers (5-11) winner

Nina Cassidy, age 9
