Writers in Schools
For writers with little or no experience of working in schools it is often difficult to know how to develop the skills and knowledge they need in order to deliver meaningful sessions in a classroom environment. Similarly, for teachers it can be difficult to understand the value of having a writer working with them without having previous experience. Scottish Book Trust is seeking professional writers, interested in developing their skills in delivering sessions, projects and residencies within a school setting. The successful applicants will be paired with a writer with experience in delivering school projects, as well as a teacher, to carry out a six session residency which will take place over a period agreed by the participating school and writers.
Fee
The successful applicants will not have to pay for any of their training, and travel expenses will be covered. They will also be paid at Live Literature Funding rates for the sessions which they deliver (£150 per hour long session).
Deadline for applications: Friday 5th February
Interviews: Friday 19th February
Induction: Friday 23rd April

2008/9 Evaluation Report
Scottish Book Trust piloted Writers in Schools: a 3-way mentoring programme in 2008/9. This programme partners an emergent writer wanting to develop their knowledge and skills for delivering longer term projects in schools with an experienced mentor writer and a teacher. This evaluation report, written by Maureen Finn of Finn Associates, assesses:
- To what extent the programme aims were shared between project partners and understood?
- The impact of the model on the developing writers
- The impact on schools and teachers
- Models of good practice in terms of delivering both mentoring partnerships and effective schools projects.
