Publishers
Publishers are key partners in the work of Scottish Book Trust and we have many common aims.
We all want a strong reading culture. We want more people to read regularly, and we believe in the value of the individual adult or child owning or having easy access to books. We also strongly believe in the inspirational value of bringing authors together with their audiences in live literature events.
Each year we create opportunities for over 70,000 people across Scotland to meet authors in a huge variety of settings, for every age group. And we run the UK's biggest children's book awards, which involves nearly 20,000 Scottish children organised into special reading groups throughout the country who vote for their favourites.
At the same time we aim to provide opportunities for writers at every stage of their careers, helping to grow audiences for those who are established, or nurturing those who represent emerging talent. The ‘escalator' model we have developed to support writers includes the award of new writer bursaries in collaboration with the Scottish Arts Council, our highly regarded mentoring scheme, and the world class opportunity represented by the The Jura Malt Whisky Writer Retreat Programme, which has already hosted Will Self, Janice Galloway and Philip Gourevitch.
Find out more about how we can support your authors and bring them face to face with their audiences through the wide range of our programmes. And if you have a query or an idea, pick up the phone and call us - we'd love to hear from you.
