Writer Development Online Content Intern

Two days per week
From February 2012 for up to one year

Scottish Book Trust is the leading agency for the promotion of literature in Scotland, developing innovative projects to encourage adults and children to read, write and be inspired by books.

 

General description of post:

This internship offers an exciting opportunity for someone with the relevant skills to develop their knowledge and experience. It is suitable for someone at an early stage in their career.

You will provide online support for the writer development programme and will carry out some general administrative duties.

Key responsibilities – you will:

  • Edit, update and develop the Writer Development web pages
  • Update and develop the Love to Write section
  • Maintain the Re:Write blog
  • Help to maintain the Scottish Book Trust contacts database
  • Update the Scottish Book Trust for Writers Facebook page and promote Scottish Book Trust using Twitter and other social networks
  • Provide administrative support and help out at Scottish Book Trust events as required.

 

Person specification – you will have or be:

  • An enthusiastic and committed individual with an interest in Scottish writing and writer development
  • Excellent IT skills including ability to use Excel, Word, E-mail, Internet browsers and databases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A good knowledge of social networks including Facebook and Twitter
  • An understanding of the ways in which social media can be used to promote arts projects
  • Good people skills and ability to work well with others and within a team
  • Administrative skills and experience

 

Support provided

You will be line managed by the Writer Development Manager. You will have regular informal meetings with your line manager and will participate in team meetings and staff meetings where possible.

You will meet with all Scottish Book trust staff and will be introduced to key contacts in Writer Development.

You will be allocated a mentor at Scottish Book Trust and will meet with them to discuss your internship and career at least four times.

Wherever possible you will attend Scottish Book Trust events and training opportunities.

 

Remuneration: 

Whilst this internship is unpaid, agreed expenses will be covered by Scottish Book Trust.

 

Timeline:

The internship is for two days per week from February 2012 for up to one year depending on your availability. The days will be arranged with the Writer Development Manager.
