Ronnie Scott's story about Prisoners of the Sun

« Back to The Book That Changed My Life
Author: George Remi Hergé
Synopsis

Tintin, Snowy and Captain Haddock set off for South America in search of the kidnapped Preofessor Calculus. After various adventures, they arrive at the Temple of the Sun, where a group of surviving Incas do not take kindly to their intervention.

My Story

This book was one of the many I read in the children's section of Maryhill Library, in north-west Glasgow. Growing up in a household with no books, I viewed the library as both a window on the world and an escape tunnel. I chose the tunnel, and eventually became the first person in my family to go to university. The book's compelling storyline and powerful graphics showed me a world totally unlike my own, and the protagonist's courage and sense of adventure was an inspiration. Tintin, the boy reporter, was the reason for my career in newspapers, too.
