Olivier Joly's story about The Little Prince
« Back to The Book That Changed My LifeProbably one of the world's most famous and widely translated book, The Little Prince tells about the meeting between a pilot whose plane crash-landed in the middle of the Sahara desert and a little blond prince with an amazing story to tell...A true classic.
My Story
The Little Prince changed my life because it taught me all there is to know about life, death, love, friendship and much more.
I have owned my copy – a beautiful if slightly battered 1957 edition – for over 30 years and it has always been with me.
When I decided to move from France to Scotland. this is the only book I took with me (it was an obvious and easy choice).
I have read it many times over the years and still pick it up regularly (sometimes just to look at it – it’s such a beautiful object too) and I feel like I learn something new every time.
In his introduction, Antoine de Saint Exupery apologises to his young readers for dedicating the book to an adult (his best friend Leon Werth) but makes up for it by adding “… when he was a little boy” because, as he says, “all grown-ups were children once, even if most have forgotten about it”.
Reading The Little Prince as a child is a wonderful experience.
Reading The Little Prince as an adult is just as important as it reminds you what it’s like to be a child… and this can only be a good thing!
