Synopsis
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is set during World War II and is about a German family who move house because of the fathers' work as a Nazi Commandant. The youngest child Bruno, goes exploring one day and finds a little boy his age called Shmuel who is a Jew and living in a concentration camp. Bruno doesn't know what a concentration camp is but he decides that he wants to live there with Shmuel. So the two of them played for a day and then they were told they had to strip off and get into a room with all the other men at the camp. This is a brilliant story with lots of excitement and a mind changing ending.

My Story

Situated in World War II, this emotional novel could change anyone's life. This is a heartwarming and sad story although I would recommend it to everyone.
This made me think in a different way about the people in World War II. It is about a small boy called Bruno who moves from Berlin to a place called 'Out With'. It was a very lonely place and Bruno and his family were all alone except for the people on the other side of the fence. He did not know why they were on the fence. One day he asked his sister who says they are jews and that we must not talk to them. Bruno loved to explore so one day he headed away from the house and walked along the fence. There he met Schmuel who was another boy but he was on the other side of the fence. He wore striped pyjamas and a striped hat like all the rest of the jews. Bruno continued to come here every afternoon and talk to Schmuel and due to Schmuel he also sneaked some food as well to give to him. One day Bruno decided to go to the other side of the fence to see what it was like. Schmuel also brought him the stripy uniform so that he would blend in. Before long it started to rain and Bruno wanted to go home but he was caught up in the Death march. However he did not know. They were led into a room where unknown to them until the time were gassed to death. After daytime when Bruno did not return home his father who was a commandant went out to find Bruno. But he found nothing except a pile of clothes. This booK changed my life because it really told me a lot about World War II. It wasn't just a fact book because it told me information in a different way which was really good. It also made me want to keep reading. I finished reading in September 2009 in my English class at school. I only bought it because I heard about the film and I also needed a book for English.
