« Back to The Book That Changed My LifeThe Bible as used by Christians is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. The New Testament is comprised of the Gospels ("good news"), the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles (letters), and the Book of Revelation.
My Story
My subtitle is "The Beautiful and Oh-So-Amazing Bible!" because it can change anyone's life. How did it change mine? Light years ago, when in my teens, I browsed through what seemed a dry and dusty copy. A few years later I came to know the author........................
Beauty bibles, food bibles, even games bibles! Why are so many reference books now called bibles? Is it to give the impression that they contain the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth within them? They probably do have plenty of good information between the covers but the book that changed my life is unique. Its made up of many books each written by a man but inspired by God. Within this book of books I have many favourites. The Psalms are full of down-to-earth reality whereas within Job there is such poetic language and The Song of Songs is all about love ; God's love for us. That is just to name three in the Old Testament. My all-time favourite in the New is the Gospel of John. The son of Zebedee, he was a simple fisherman and it is likely that he was present at most of the events he recorded. Light years ago, when I was in my teens, I looked through a school copy. Absolutely dry and dusty. So, how did the change come about? I needed to know the author before the change could take place in me! In John, chapter 3 Jesus tells a story. Nicodemus was a highly intelligent man, one of the religious elite. Yet he was so fearful of what others would think that he made his visit to Jesus by night. He simply had to know the truth. Where could he find eternal life? He was a very religious man so why didn't he know the answer himself? Because Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life! I, too was on that same journey. Are you? He was given an interesting answer. ”You must be born again” What? How? It's impossible, thought Nicodemus. But Jesus meant a spiritual re-birth and told him plainly in verse 16, ”For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He even gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have eternal life”. Nicodemus needed to turn from his sins, for even though he was a good man we have all sinned in one way or another. Only Jesus, God's Son, was 100% good enough to die in our place so that we could receive God's forgiveness. Wow! Not only forgiven, but given eternal life which begins the moment we are “born again”. The Bible is up-to-the minute, speaks of everyday situations and through reading it we can not only learn how to treat one another but God provides the power to do it. A perfect handbook for life!
