Joseph Anderson's story about Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
« Back to The Book That Changed My LifeHarry Potter is living with his horrible relatives in dreary middle England, believing that his parents were killed in a car crash when one night he is visited by a man-giant named Hagrid who escorts him off to wizard school where Harry discovers that there is a whole other side to the world and that his past is shrouded in mysteries. He makes friends with the class swot Hermione and Ron Weasley, the good sport and sets about his adventures.
My Story
Potter-ing Around, in People’s Lives The book that has changed my life most is not just one book, but a whole series. Harry Potter may seem like too much of a children’s series to affect me, but I have good reasons why… The fun and continuously interesting plot made me want to never stop reading them, despite the fact that I was so young at the time I had to have them read to me. The series were the first books I ever read, and I’m glad I did as they sparked my interest in reading and in the fantasy genre. In fact, I remember taking the first book when nobody was looking and trying to read a page of it(and in case you were wondering, I managed to)! If I had not read the series, I am doubtful that I would be motivated enough to pick up any other books, such as the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, which changed my views on religion. The absence of reading in my life might have also had a negative effect on my education as reading increases vocabulary, so I may not have done as well in school as I am doing now. According to figures, other people seem to share my love of the books, as a recent statistic shows that one in six households own at least one book of the series, and it has inspired a whole new generation to read. Harry Potter has changed my life and hundreds and thousands of other children’s and adult’s lives. They are interesting, funny and I heartily recommend anyone who has not read one, to at least give them a try.
