The Day I Won by Aimee McKay
My name is Aimee McKay, I am twelve years old and I go to Dalkeith high. My special day was when I was doing a dancing competition during the summer holidays. I am writing about this day because I felt really proud of myself and it was the day I felt I had made my mum and dad really proud of me. I had worked really hard all the time I had my practice classes and here it was, the day I had been waiting for.
On that day I had to get up at six o’clock sharp. I needed to get up that early because I was dancing at 9:00 am and I had to get my hair, make-up and my outfit on. One of my friend’s, from dancing, mum had done my hair for the competition. Me and my mum went down to Musselburgh Grammar High School because that’s where the competition was. For my first dance I was dancing in the tap section, I danced against forty-five people; I was also doing a song and a dance troupe which is when a whole group of us dance all together.
For my tap section I got third joint with one of my friends, from dancing, called Brooke once we stepped off the stage we were so pleased that two dancers that were friends and both went to the same school both got the same place. We were so happy we got pictures together and were jumping up and down with happiness. That puts us in champion ships.
For my song section, I was singing “I am Getting Married in the Morning” and “With a Little Bit of Luck” by Mr Doolittle in My Fair Lady. I got placed fourth which puts me in the championship. In the troupe section, we danced to the Wizard of Oz. Once we had danced we were waiting anxiously for the results. They came - It was a tie, we had won first place!
I was shouting to the people on stage, and then went to get the medals, going, “We won! We won!” And that’s why that day was, and is, my special day.
