Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Oisin McGann
During the first week of March the Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour took Oisin McGann from his native Ireland and toured him round 10 Secondary Schools in North Lanarkshire, Falkirk and South Lanarkshire. We endured heavy rainfall (well, it is the West of Scotland), being pelted with snowballs and a mind-boggling maze of roundabouts but Oisin still managed to put a smile on the faces of those who met and listened to him.
Oisin has written a fantastic blog about his tour which you can read on the Young Scottish Book Trust Blog.
On World Book Day (Thursday 5th March) we even had a spot on gmtv!
Bo'ness Academy put together their own webpage on the visit!
You can now listen to our exclusive interview with Oisin McGann.
"When I heard that Oisin McGann was coming to visit our school I was really excited. He read extracts from his books and spoke about his inspiration for his stories. He gave us tips on how to write our own stories and told us about the stories he read when he was our age. He drew a picture of one of the characters from his books, it was really good! Overall I really enjoyed his visit, it was lots of fun."
Kirsten, Bo'ness Academy
"I thouroughly enjoyed the Oisin McGann event. I laughed more than I had for a long time, but I also learned a lot about writing techniques and illustration. It was fantastic."
Fraser, Strathaven Academy
"Oisin McGann was very funny and presented a new way to view writing and illustrating. His drawing was fantastic and showed off his skills. It was a very interesting and informative experience."
Timothy, Strathaven Academy
"I thought that Mr McGann was very funny, cool and interesting. He was easy to talk and listen to and even relate to. He knew how to talk to children of our age and did so well. He was a very good writer and an excellent illustrator. I think that it is good the he runs these events as I learned a lot from him and was so inspired I bought one of his books!"
Angus, Strathaven Academy
"I really enjoyed the experience of getting to meet Oisin McGann. I thought that he was an outgoing man and very hilarious!"
