Scottish Cup Final by Callum Robsan

On the 13th of May 2006 Gretna were playing Heart of Mid Lothian in the Scottish Cup Final. I had to get up really early, get ready and have my breakfast and then get in the car. I went with my brother Ewan and Dad.

On the way there we saw lots of Gretna fans and I counted 38 buses. When we got to Glasgow we got a ticket for the car park, then we went to the shop for a sweet. When we were just about go into the stadium we saw Gretna's Owner Brooks Mileson and we thanked him because he had paid for all the children's tickets.

When we got into Hampden we found our seats and we had good view on to the pitch.

All the players came out on to the pitch, then the whistle went for kick off.

Just before half time Heart of Mid Lothian scored, then the half way whistle blew. After the 15 minutes rest, the players came out of the tunnel. In the second half Gretna had a few chances and their best chance fell to David Graham, he got slide tackled at the last second and just missed. After a few minutes Gretna got a penalty because Ryan McGuffie got dragged down. Ryan McGuffie took the penalty and Craig Gordon saved it but he scored on the rebound, all the Gretna fans stood up and cheered. After that there were no more chances for anyone. Then the final whistle blew and the game went on to extra time. Again no team had any chances.

Then the game went on to a penalty shoot out. Hearts were first to take, they scored and then Mark Birch took the first penalty for Gretna and he scored right into the bottom corner.

Hearts scored their second penalty, James Grady went up to take the second and he scored right into the roof of the net Hearts scored the third one and Gretna's Derek Townsley missed. Hearts scored their fourth. Gavin Skelton had to score or Hearts would win. He hit the bar and missed. All the Hearts supporters were screaming their heads off because they had won. The man of the match was Gretna's goalie Alan Main. Then we went back to the car and went to pick our Mum up from Braehead. On the way back my brother and I got to go to McDonalds.

It was a great day and I will never forget it.
