Review:
This is a very good thriller. I was gripped by this book. You are always on edge by the end of the chapter, always eager to keep reading. The story is excellent. The cover sets you on edge from the moment that you first look at it. This is because the picture is a silhouette of a boy in a dark wood. The boy is right in the middle of a target. Also on the cover under the title there is a little starter sentence "seconds later it would have been him" The main character is called John. He witnesses a series of murders in Blackriggs. He picks up a boy from the remains of Blackriggs. Three days later Hector the horse is whinnying and wakes John up. John sees the army coming. He and Ninian are now on the run. I think this is a great book and I think it deserves to win the award.
