Review:
I found the “Tim Burton-esque” book intriguing as the evil plans of Foyce, Gracie Gillypot’s evil stepsister, began to unfurl. This all seems to stem from the sorceress, Lady Lamorna’s, wish for a ‘robe beyond all compare’. Having no money, Lady Lamorna begins a “quest” for enough gold for her Robe of Skulls. Stopping at a roadside inn, disguised as an old peddler woman, Lady Lamorna is seen by Foyce, who is immediately suspicious of her. Foyce then charms Lady Lamorna into allowing her to turn the princes of the surrounding kingdoms into frogs. Foyce double-crosses Lady Lamorna and uses the ‘frog-princes’ for her own reasons. Gracie and Prince Marcus – who escaped the spell – join forces to rescue the princes from Foyce. Gracie and Marcus take the frogs to the Ancient Crones, wise old women who weave the Web of Power, to be turned back into themselves. Foyce, determined to stop Gracie, follows and gets trapped by the thorns and quicksand that guard the web. Later she becomes a new weaver of the Web. The Crones turn the princes back. The usual fairytale ending follows where everyone lives happily ever after; and Lady Lamorna finally gets her Robe of Skulls.
