Review:
I liked Joan Lingard’s book The Eleventh Orphan. It is very adventurous how Elfie who had nothing ends up with a dad who is a lawyer. At the start she slept under a bridge on the banks of a river. Constable O’Dowd pleaded with Elfie to go to The Pig And Whistle, a pub in Greens Lane. Mr. and Mrs Bigsby who ran The Pig also looked after ten orphans. Ivy, one of the orphans, had a terrible childhood. Her mother and father didn’t want her. Elfie wasn’t sure if she wanted to stay here but she did. As the story unravels we find out more about all the orphans and Elfie. Elfie was convinced her father was still alive but knew her mother died shortly after she was born. At the end of the story Elfie had to make the hardest decision in her life. She could stay with her father or stay at The Pig. In the end she stayed at The Pig and stayed with her Dad on Sundays.
