13 Books Featuring Teens as Young Carers

Teens taking on responsibilities far beyond their years

It's estimated there are as many as 700,000 young carers in the UK, and their average age is just 12 years old. These heroic young people are usually tasked with looking out for ill or vulnerable family members: grandparents, younger siblings, even parents, at an age when most of their peers are enjoying their childhoods and mostly worrying about homework and exams. Their struggle is real; their obstacles formidible, and it's difficult for many of us to truly grasp what they're facing and going through. Some of these books may go a long way towards helping us walk a mile in their shoes.

For more about why we must support our young carers, have a look at this excellent blog from author Maz Evans.
