Biography

I was born into a farming family in the ancient realm of Carrick and raised on a diet of songs and storytelling. My happiest times were working on the farms or rambling the Galloway Hills and I hope my books reflect this love of the natural world and the earthy language of the South West. Although Robert Burns, a fellow Ayrshire farming lad, was an early hero, I always imagined that writers were somewhere up there with the angels. Can you imagine the surprise when a publisher said “yes” to a manuscript? Although I write every day I am not a prolific author. My main concern—obsession, if you like—is to get out to children in schools and, hopefully, inspire them through music, creative writing and storytelling into not wasting their young years, as I often did. Oh yes! and to show that the writers, pop stars, scientists, etc of the future are not angels and can be them.
