Design at Glasgow School of Art. After graduating I moved to London and worked in a variety of jobs including bookseller at Waterstone's in Old Brompton Rd and rug designer at Habitat before completing a MA in Design for Interactive Media at Middlesex University, then I co-founded a successful interactive design company. When the company was sold I decided it was time to move back to Glasgow. I have now found a new niche, writing and illustrating children's picture books. I live in Glasgow with my husband, little girl and dog.
About writer's work
Although I work on computer, my background is print and I try hard to incorporate human error into everything I do - so that the work doesn't become too clean and clinical. I love vintage children's books and especially admire illustrators such as Martin and Alice Provensen, Alain Grée, Miroslav Sasek , Tomi Ungerer, Tove Jansen, William Wondriska and Maurice Sendak of course. My fascination with old books is to do with the printing process, I love the tactile quality of old print, with all it's scuffs and blotches.
Current events and projects
As a trained art teacher I like to include some element of making in my events. At previous events we have made shoes, decorated biscuits, created superhero characters, made prints using techniques such as monoprinting, relief printing and potato printing.
Events /workshops/residencies done so far include: Edinburgh International Book Festival, Wigtown Book Festival, Dundee Book Festival, Scottish Book Trust early years writer in residence, workshops around Stirling schools.
