Sarah Forbes Stewart
I was born in Aberdeen and grew up in Stonehaven, though my mum is from beautiful Shetland, a place I don’t get to visit nearly enough.
I started my career at DC Thomson in Dundee and am still a proud Dundee United fan! I then moved to London to work as a magazine journalist and book editor. I was Fiction Editor at Scholastic Children’s Books and Senior Editor at Floris Books, and have written for Mizz, Bella, The Skinny, The Herald, The List and The Guardian. When I’m not writing, I run Lighthouse Literary (www.lighthouseliterary.co.uk.) and love talking to kids and adults alike about reading, writing and the joy of making stuff up.
About writer's work
I’m the author of the Elspeth Hart books for 7-9 year olds: Elspeth Hart and the School for Show-offs and Elspeth Hart and the Perilous Voyage, published by Stripes. My children’s books are incredibly silly and full of stories about bratty school kids and disgusting dinner ladies.

I’m delighted to do readings, Q&As, author talks about my books, and talks about the writing process. I’m also very happy to do creative writing workshops with P3-6, especially sessions on developing characters, thinking up villains and heroes, and making up disgusting recipes together (after all, my books feature an evil dinner lady).
I’m also happy to talk to adults about the process of writing and getting published, based on my experiences as an editor at a large London publishing house.
As a poet, I have been published in Anon, Mslexia, The Pickled Body and The Scotsman, Best Scottish Poems 2014 and Be The First To Like This: New Scottish Poetry.
