I am a poet and novelist with over 15 years’ experience of leading creative writing workshops. I can work with groups of any size discussing the techniques suitable for writers of poetry, crime fiction or general fiction.
About writer's work
I have had over 200 poems published in literary magazines and anthologies and was one of the founder members of Makar Press Poets with Sheila Templeton, Jim Hughes and Rowena M. Love – publishing collections: In the Raw, Running Threads and Lip Sync.
My full-length works include Blood Tears (2012) Carnegie’s Call: Develop the Success Habit (2013), A Taste for Malice (2013), The Guillotine Choice (2014) and Beyond the Rage (2015).
I am a previous winner of the Dorothy Dunbar Poetry Competition and the Pitlochry Prize (crime fiction).
Current events and projects
I give readings on poetry, fiction and non-fiction. As an experienced creative writing tutor I am also able to give workshops on all these areas to groups of any size. My experience has in the main been with adults, but I have some experience of talking to schools, primarily in the range of 4th to 6th year.
As a qualified life coach I can also blend in my creative experience and workshop writers on how to achieve their goals.
As a founder member of Makar Press Poets I have performed my work all over the country, I have also had over 200 poems published over the years in a variety of small press and literary anthologies including New Writing Scotland, Poetry Scotland and Markings.
I have appeared at book festivals throughout the country, both as a participant and as a chair. These include Aye Write, Bloody Scotland, Crimefest, Imprint, Inverness Book Festival, Murder in Moffat and Wigtown Book Festival.
I am the Vice-President of the Scottish Association of Writers, an organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in creative writing and a former committee member for the Society of Authors in Scotland.
