Karen Campbell's headshot

I live in Galloway, but am originally from Glasgow, where I graduated with an MLitt (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Glasgow University in 2003. Before becoming a writer, I worked as a police officer in Glasgow city centre, and then as a press officer with Glasgow City Council.

While my subjects range from contemporary inner city policing, to refugees, to choosing a side in WW2 Italy, the themes I keep returning to are identity, family and relationships. I'm especially interested in social issues, in margins and facades and people on the edges.

In addition to mentoring, giving readings and leading creative writing workshops with adults and secondary pupils, I've also worked with young offenders, people who are homeless, female prisoners, asylum seekers and refugees, and I'm happy to tailor any talks or workshops to your individual needs.
