Just as Gerry Loose's poems may have the environment as a starting point, his poems are also inscribed in Botanic Gardens, various landscapes, hospitals and galleries. He's been poet in residence at the Botanic Gardens of Glasgow, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh at Dawyck and Montpellier, France's oldest botanic garden. His latest book is night exposures (Vagabond Voices, 2018). He is also a prose writer, dramatist and editor, most recently of Ten Seasons: Explorations in Botanics (Scottish Poetry Library, Luath).

With deep and extensive experience of workshops in all situations, his poetry and prose is imbued with environmental and ecological concerns. Among his awards are a Creative Scotland Award, Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship, Society of Authors Award, Hermann Kesten Stipendium, Scottish Arts Council Writer's Bursary, and Kone Foundation Award.
