Gaelic Books
The Bookbug Programme gifts a free Gaelic book in every Bookbug pack in Highland and the Western Isles. This is thanks to dedicated funding from Bord na Gaidhlig and is part of a range of measures which the Bord funds to promote the Gaelic language. If your child attends a Gaelic medium nursery in a different local authority, they may also receive Gaelic books within their Bookbug Pirate Pack.

The gifting of an extra book in each pack for children in Highland and Western Isles means that these children are getting an extra book for their book shelf. The Gaelic books can be shared in any language with children, and the benefits of talking through the pictures, or getting creative and making your own story up, are a very valuable experience for children, regardless of whether parents hope that their children will learn to speak Gaelic or not. Parents can have fun looking at the pictures, letting children turn the pages and talking through the pictures in the books in English.
Dual Language Books
At present we are unable to provide dual language books in the Bookbug Packs. However we will soon have a parents information leaflet available to download in a number of languages.
If you are interested in purchasing books in other languages, we would recommend trying Mantra Lingua - This website has a fantastic range of well-known and undiscovered titles in 52 different languages.
You can also ask your local library whether they stock bilingual titles or books in other languages.
