Bookbug for Professionals and Practitioners

Scottish Book Trust was given responsibility for Early Years book gifting in Scotland by the Scottish Government in April 2009.

Following consultation with stakeholders and with the support of the Scottish Government, we have developed a new improved book gifting programme which firmly links into Scottish educational and parenting policies.

The new model is based on the same premise of encouraging parents to share books with their children from as early an age as possible, and the programme will continue to be delivered in partnership with all Local Authority Library and Education Services and NHS boards across Scotland.

The public face of the new programme is Bookbug, a cuddly, friendly little creature, who will capture the hearts of children and parents across Scotland, inspiring them to share books and visit their local library together.

The professional face of Bookbug will be known as Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years Programme, to reinforce with partners, funders and sponsors its image as an effective early intervention programme, underpinned by strong research and solid outcomes.
