This doorstop of Modernist literature was banned in the US for its sexual content. Which at least suggests that someone actually made it through all 1040 of Joyce's densely-packed pages. Unless they just skipped to the rude bits.   

Orwell's prophetic masterpiece was banned in the Soviet Union because Stalin believed that it was a satire on his leadership. And he was right, and that's why you should read it!

Yes, before it was sanitized by Disney it was banned in China, for the portrayal of anthropomorphized animals that have the same status as humans. And who can blame them - wouldn't you be terrified of a 5ft talking rabbit?

This was banned in Lebanon for portraying Jews favourably. This may sound ridiculous, but look into the long-standing history of feuds in the Middle East and it will, sadly, start to make sense. 

Banned in the US for its depiction of violence and the savage capabilities of mankind. Erm, pot, kettle... black, anyone?

This cult novel that became a cult movie was banned in China for providing instructions on how to make your own explosive devices. Just remember, not everyone looks as cool as Brad Pitt when they set off bombs.
