Every year Scottish Book Trust offers writers the opportunity to develop their cross-media careers through our Labs.

CBeebies Lab


BBC Scotland logoScottish Book Trust is delighted to be working with BBC Scotland on a fantastic new Lab which will help to develop the skills needed to write for a pre-school audience, and will also provide nuts-and-bolts advice on working in this challenging, but exciting industry.


The Lab will be led by Sara Harkins, Executive Editor, CBeebies Scotland and will include workshops from established industry practitioners.


 


 


 


Screen Lab


Write a screenplay!Are you currently writing short stories, novels or plays, and have you ever wondered what it takes to write for Film and TV?


 


 


Screen Lab is led by award winning writer and director Adrian Mead. Over a packed three days Adrian will take you through the realities of the script development process and the strategy you need to adopt in order to break into the industry.

BBC Radio Lab 


RadioScottish Book Trust has joined with BBC Radio Drama to provide an annual Radio Lab for published writers. BBC Scotland Radio Drama has established a strong track record producing a wide range of drama for Radio 4, Radio 3, Radio Scotland and BBC 7. Working with writers in Scotland and beyond, the department's output is both original and international.


Over the past eight years the Department has run a series of Radio Labs to develop new writing for radio. The Radio Labs have led to first radio commissions for a new generation of writing talent from Scotland including, Gregory Burke; Louise Ironside; Linda Cracknell; Louise Welsh; Simon Little; Maggie Graham; Andy Macdonald; Melanie Garrett; Lorraine McCann, Laura Marney, Zoe Strachan, Iain F. MacLeod, Nick Underwood, Merryn Glover, Alistair Rutherford, Hannah McGill and Clara Glynn.


The Lab includes a mixture of practical workshops and projects and talks from experienced Radio Producers and Writers. The Lab will also include a recording based day during which writers will have the chance to hear their work being rehearsed and recorded by professional actors.
