Several teams of sifters from Scottish Book Trust and Booktrust in London created a longlist of c.50 stories, which then went to the panel of judges. This year’s shortlist of five authors was announced on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 on Friday 4 July. They are: Richard Beard, Jane Gardam, Erin Soros, Adam Thorpe and Clare Wigfall. For more information on the authors and their stories, please see www.theshortstory.org.uk. The five shortlisted authors will be interviewed on Today, one per day from Monday 7 July, and that author’s story will be broadcast in the afternoon story slot at 3.30 on Radio 4 on the day they’re interviewed, and then the winner is announced on Today on Monday 14 July. An anthology of the five shortlisted stories has been published by Short Books.
Story is jointly run by Scottish Book Trust, Booktrust in London and the BBC, with funding from the Scottish Arts Council and Arts Council England.
