Summary: This annual award has been created to recognise publishing skill and effort, to validate the practice of poetry publication in pamphlet form and to encourage the preservation of printed material of this kind in the national collections. The award was created in memory of Callum Macdonald MBE, Scottish literary publisher and founder of Macdonald Publishers and Printers. The prize consists of The Callum Macdonald Quaich and a cash prize of £500.

Summary: Two awards, Scottish Book of the Year (£5,000), and Scottish First Book (£1,500), are open to any author of Scottish descent or living in Scotland, or for a book by anyone which deals with the work or life of a Scot or with a Scottish problem, event or situation. Nominations are made by literary editors of Scottish newspapers and periodicals.

Robin Jenkins Literary Award
The Robin Jenkins Literary Award 2008/9 is a new writing award for £5,000 for a work of fiction or non-fiction that draws and builds on Scotland’s cultural heritage using the country’s unique environmental assets, in particular trees and forestry. Sponsored by Forestry Commission Scotland, the Robin Jenkins Literary Award will be for £5,000. The work should not exceed 100,000 words in length. It can be a biography, environmental or wildlife study, historical account or a work of fiction, as long as it can be clearly referenced to the key theme. Entries of new writing and works published within the last 2 years are eligible if they meet the criteria. Entries should be sent to the organisers no later than 31 March 2009.
