This Side of Heaven
Striking story of Scotland's carers to be unveiled by bestselling author Laura Marney.
Should carers go on strike? That is the question posed by writer Laura Marney in a new short story that explores the emotional impact of caring for people with learning disabilities.
Marney, one of Scotland's bestselling authors, has written a series of monologues, called This Side of Heaven, telling the intimate stories of four carers as they cope with their ‘child' moving into their own home.
Each talks of the emotional and practical challenges they face - from a mother who finds freedom in a part-time job in a supermarket to another frustrated mother's call for an all-out strike.
Marney was commissioned to write the piece by Artlink Edinburgh with help from Scottish Book Trust, to draw attention to the realities faced by carers.
