Michael Rosen Teacher Resources
The idea behind these resources is to give teachers whose pupils are involved in the internet broadcast on 4th March 2010 (or who watch the on-demand file after the live broadcast) some ideas for introductory or follow up work they might like to do to enhance their pupils’ enjoyment of the event.
These materials are very much a “buffet” selection, i.e. teachers can choose whatever activity appeals to them keeping in mind the reading levels of their classes.
They also include ideas for you to involve the wider community in the event.
All teaching materials are © Cathrin Howells, Creative Contexts

Feedback
Teacher Feedback:
"Michael Rosen was really funny. I put the broadcast up on the whiteboard in the library so any pupils come in would have a chance to see the broadcast. I thought it would only attract the younger pupils (S1/S2), but the senior pupils were 'sucked in' by Michael Rosen's humour as well!" St.Mungo's High School
"The children thoroughly enjoyed the event. They listened very carefully and had lots of laughs." Kirkinner Primary School
"It was excellent! Really enjoyable to listen to Michael Rosen - all the children enjoyed it. We had some problems with the connection being lost so missed problably around 5 minutes in total. We look forward to watching it again when the file is available to view." Millbank Primary School
"Children and staff loved it! Pupils were inspired and went back to class and wrote fantastic poems." Dunecht School
"The event was fantastic. All of the children in P3-7 were engaging with the event and repeting things back and copying actions. It was lovely to have all children involved and to see them all enjoying the event." Whitecraig Primary School
"Excellent ,children were immediately engaged and waved back to screen. P1's began to loose concentration at question section but 2's and 3's still very involved. Pupils went to library to see if they could find any poetry books by Michael. I used the Don't poem which was featured in the notes to teachers. The pupils also performed it at a Parent Social event. In class P2 and 3's wrote their own 'Don't ' poems." Madderty Primary
"The children really enjoyed the humour of Michael Rosen. The couldn't quite believe it was happening there and then. Everyone really enjoyed it and this developed further interest in his writing, encouraging them to have a go and write a version of his poems." Girvan Primary School
"We all found it very engaging and fun - lots of laughter." Flora Stevenson Primary
"It was good. he's very lively and lovable and accessible so a good choice" The James Young High School

"Morrison's Academy Primary School" Cathedral Primary School
"It was a fantastic experience which we all enjoyed. The resources provided were very good and I was able to select from them to prepare the children for the event and then to follow up afterwards. We had a poetry morning as our celebration of world Book Day with the event being the central highlight. Although designed for older primary children we let all the children watch with the intention of taking the younger ones out part way through, however they were all so engaged and engrossed they all watched the whole session. We had a library session in the afternoon and several of the children asked to borrow Michael Rosen books including one of the P2s. Children have quoted or played with the words of lines of the poems several times since and the breaking of the toothbrush as been an ongoing laugh every day when the children brush their teeth after lunch." Burravoe Primary School
"It was excellent the pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening to Michael's poems and stories. He captivated his audience." Salen Primary School
"It was fantastic. Michael Rosen had my class captivated from beginning to end. They wished they could have been there!" Clepington Primary School
"Fantastic, superb and as many positive adjectives as you can think." St Andrews School
"Fabulous the children were enthralled. We are a fairly remote school and the opotunity to listen to an author of Michaels stature was a great opportunity." Porthleven Primary School
